Catherine McCormack, alto

Catherine McCormack is experienced in, and a lover of, many music genres. Originally from Nova Scotia, she began singing in church variety shows at the age of five where she developed a particular fondness for Irish and Scottish folk songs. Since then, this dynamic contralto has performed in many high level vocal and instrumental ensembles. Some of Catherine’s career highlights thus far include singing with Vocem Resurgentis Medieval Trio, joining a hip hop artist onstage at Yonge-Dundas Square, and performing Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at St Cuthburt’s Anglican Church in Toronto where she was previously the Alto Section Leader and Soloist. Most recently, Catherine has helped form The Embers, an eclectic and innovative a cappella trio inspired by the close harmonies of the Andrews Sisters. Catherine loves incorporating acting, art, and movement into performances; in her other life as an Addictions Social Worker, she is interested in the therapeutic potential of music for healing and community building. When Catherine is not singing harmony or providing counseling, she can found playing board games and spoiling her sister-cats Tara and Willow.

Meet Catherine next Saturday at 19:30.
