Join us on February 11, 7:30 p.m. at St Thomas the Apostle Church (715 Centre Road, Waterdown) and February 12, 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Church (262 Randall Street, Oakville). Musikay explores the many facets of love as set in music by some of the Renaissance’s greatest composers.
The beautiful and rich voices of Musikay perform in an intimate and unusual setting the popular and well loved Wilbye’s Adieu sweet amaryllis, Dowland’s All ye whom love or fortune, Lasso’s Bonjour mon coeur, Downland’s Come again, Farmer’s Fair Phillis. Nothing compares though to the profoundly emotional Monteverdi’s Lamento d’arianna : lasciatemi morire, Handel’s Lascia ch’io pianga, Desprez’s Mille regretz. A concert about love would not the complete with out Lasso’s Mon coeur se recommande, and Arbeau’s Pavane.
This Valentine’s season is the perfect time to discover the sweet and passionate love songs of the Renaissance era, and our concert is the perfect place to meet and mingle with other lovers of Renaissance music.
