April 16 is a special day for Musikay and Maestro Potvin.
We present the final concert of its tenth year, while Maestro Potvin celebrates the life of his older son and remembers his second child who passed away ten years ago.
To celebrate our tenth anniversary of founding, we offer an intimate program of a cappella music written by the masters of the Franco-Flemish school; in other words, the wonderful compositions of Dufay, Josquin, Ockeghem, and Binchois.
For Maestro Potvin, this is the celebration of his older son’s twelfth birthday. This also marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of his baby boy. In honour of his two children Maestro Potvin presents two new works. The first is a piano composition that earned his eldest a third place award in a provincial composition competition. The piece, “The swinging monkey”, has been arranged especially for the formidable voices of Musikay. The second is a mystical work composed for his second son, set to the words Lux aeterna luceat ei, Domine (May everlasting light shine upon him, O Lord). The piece expresses the pain of the loss of a loved one, and explores the deep emotions that evolve over time as one tries to heal from such a life changing experience.
Join us for this special concert on April 16, 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Church, in Oakville.
For those wanting to know more about the music, the group hosts a chat and tea at 6:30 p.m.
