Brenda Bjarnason, Alto
Originally from Saskatchewan, alto Brenda Bjarnason began singing with St. Martin’s Junior Choir from age 8 to 14. Throughout high school in Winnipeg, she sang in annual musical productions, with a solo role as Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music. During university, she sang and danced in the chorus of a Winnipeg production of Strauss’ Der Zigeunerbaron. After graduating from the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture with a Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours), Brenda moved to Montreal. She joined The Donovan Chorale and also sang with Ewan Edwards’ St. Lawrence Choir, which was invited to join The Montreal Symphony’s performance of Mahler’s 8th under Charles Dutoit. Brenda’s career brought her to Toronto where she enjoyed singing with Ivars Taurins and The Tafelmusik Chamber Choir from 1985 – 1995. She also sang with The Pax Christi Chorale and the Pax Christi Chamber Choir for 10 years with Artistic Director Stephanie Martin. Now a resident of Dundas, Brenda has recently performed with chorale groups including The Oakville Chorale Society and The Brott Music Festival. Brenda is very pleased to join Stéphane Potvin and Musikay for this performance of Handel’s Messiah.
